Build the timeline first: registration countries, mileage progression, owner changes and any archived images. A long gap is not proof of a fault, but it creates a clear question for the seller and a reason to examine invoices more carefully.

Use the VIN to identify the exact TSI, TDI, DSG, 4×4 or iV version. Then request specific workshop checks for DSG servicing and operation, 4×4 coupling maintenance, DPF and EGR data, timing components, cooling and electronic faults. An iV car also needs a separate high-voltage battery assessment.
If damage or auction photographs are available, match the affected area with paint depth, seams, body alignment and safety equipment. Only proceed when mileage chronology, documents, workshop findings and the road test form a consistent account.
